Committees

Incident Reduction Committee

The U of M Facilities Management is committed to reducing workplace accidents and their related costs. To accomplish this FM has established an Incident Reduction Committee. The committee is responsible for reviewing incident reports, tracking injury trends and determining resolutions.

Material Review Board

The purpose of the Material Review Board (MRB) is to improve safety, health, and functionality for FM's custodial work force. A dominant cornerstone of the MRB's platform is to consistently improve the inventory of approved cleaning products used by custodians. Reducing the number of approved custodial cleaning products improves the safety and health of the end user by eliminating those products that haveJanuary 18, 2008ies the specialized training required for each product.

In 1999, the MRB successfully reduced the number of products being used by the FM custodial program from 456 products to 150. In 2001, the number of approved products was reduced to 101. The 101 approved products are the only products to be used in the custodial cleaning process. Each of the 101 approved products went through a process stringent evaluation and testing.

Another goal of the MRB is to integrate the use of bio-based products into custodial operations. Bio-based or plant derived products provide functionality that rival the existing line of approved custodial products while vastly improving the safety, health, and environment for the end user. A 1999 Executive Order from former president Bill Clinton set a goal of tripling U.S. use of bio-based products by 2010.
