Facilities Management will provide baseline services to its customers. Service levels will be reviewed annually as part of the budget process and changes communicated to customers. University Custodians (Maroon Standards)
The university custodians provide cleaning services in a cost effective, efficient and environmentally sound manner. They are responsible for cleaning more than ten million square feet in over 250 buildings on the Twin Cities campus daily.
Waste and Recycling
Waste Management and Recycling manages University of Minnesota waste in a cost effective, efficient and environmentally sound manner. Waste Management and Recycling collects more than 9,000 tons and recycles more than 3,000 tons each year.
Maintenance
Maintenance Operations preserves the physical assets of the University. Services provided fall into three major categories: preventive maintenance, routine repairs and emergency services.
Landcare
Landcare presents a beautiful, safe and accessible exterior environment.
Chilled Water
Energy Management operates a large central chiller plant that provides cold water to cool buildings and equipment across campus. This group also maintains the underground piping to distribute the chilled water.
R & R
Repair and Replacement projects help FM to honor its commitment to stewardship by preserving the University’s assets and infrastructure.
Steam
The University of Minnesota operates a combined heat and power plant that provides heat and power for close to 22 million square feet of building space on the East and West Bank of the Twin Cities campus. The University’s steam distribution system has been recognized as one of the most efficient systems in the world.
Electricity
Electrical utilities provides reliable, cost effective, environmentally friendly power. Energy Management is continually recognized for the superior maintenance of their electrical distribution system.
Facilities Management Customer Service Center (FMCSC)
The Facilities Management Customer Service Center (FMCSC) is the university’s one stop shop for 24/7 facilities service and support. The FMCSC has two major functions.The Call Center is our customers’ first point of contact for maintenance requests and general facilities needs. By calling 624-2900, customers can be connected with a representative 24/7 who will coordinate response to facility related issues. The Building Systems Automation Center (BSAC) provides campus-wide alarm monitoring services for over 60,000 alarm points. A weekend supervisor provides on-site coordination to ensure facility support for teaching, research and special events that take place on weekends.
