In 2009, we recycled 38.1% of the total waste the University of Minnesota generated, keeping nearly 3,500 tons of waste out of the incinerator. In 2010, we upped that total to 40.8% of the Total Waste Stream!

Recycling also reduces the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. In 2008, 6,059.96 metric tons of CO2 were averted from the atmosphere. In 2010, we increased the amount of C02 averted from the atmosphere to 7122.53 metric tons—for every pound of material recycled, 1.9 lbs of CO2 were averted!
