Our Energy Management group performs many critical functions in keeping the University running: heating and cooling our buildings, finding solutions for using less energy, buying fuel, managing campus stormwater and providing the Districts with engineering expertise to name a few.
Recently this group got stronger through hiring Jim Green as an Assistant Director of Energy Management. Jim’s no stranger to the U having earned is Bachelor of Civil Engineering here followed by a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
Jim joins us after 27 years as an Engineering Duty Officer in the U.S. Navy. As a leader of a 500+ person operations and maintenance organization Jim brings considerable experience in:
* Plant operations
* Maintenance management
* Process improvement
* Strategic planning
* Contract administration
While used to big ships like the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, Jim is anxious to tackle the U’s 23 million square feet with the Facility Engineering team. Welcome aboard Jim.
Great Performance – Greg Ruppman, Energy Technician, Health Science District
Keeping our focus on Energy Management, I wanted you to know about Greg’s efforts. Recently our customers from Research Animal Resources (RAR) needed to swap rats for birds in a couple of Health Science District rooms. One thing to remember is that our feathered friends require different room temperatures then our furry friends. Greg hopped on it and got the new temperatures programmed in under 6 hours.
The quick turn around was much appreciated but more importantly Greg took a little extra time and clarified the room number with the customer. The customer’s original request listed a room that we don’t service. By taking the time to clarify, Greg demonstrated that he was on the ball and by asking the customer to confirm the room number he avoided impacting the research animals.
Thank you Mr. Rupmann!
Mike
