Re: Award Winning Performance

Last week FM took first prize from the more than 80 entries at the University’s Quality Fair and shared the Innovation award for a joint project with University Stores. We took the top honors for our monthly scorecard project. The judges were impressed that we have built a system to track our progress, analyze trend data, create recovery plans and then post the results on line for customers and staff to see.

The Innovation award honored our pilot partnership with University Stores where we have standardized custodial closets in MTRF and Hasselmo Hall. We renovated custodial closets and then worked with U Stores to establish supply lists and stocking schedules. U Stores bar-coded the shelves, scanned shelf items and then generated an electronic monthly invoice. The project allows us to focus on what we do best, cleaning while U Stores do what they do best, ordering, stocking and invoicing supplies.

The Quality Fair is an opportunity for U campuses, departments and units to share best practices, celebrate quality improvement projects, and showcase innovative ideas that they've come up with over the past 12 months--and that support the U's goal of transforming itself into one of the top three public research universities in the world.

Great Performances

Awo Ali, Magdy Elymany, Fatuma Saeed, Prince DePratto, Shimelise Wolde, Wallace Marlow, Larry Van Grootheest, Brian Flaherty, Tim Lahti and Mike Garza

Last Saturday at 4:00 p.m. we received a call notifying us that 16 classrooms in Folwell Hall had been vandalized. Desks were overturned, chalk boards defaced, pop dumped on carpets, garbage strewn all over and one door was shattered – a complete disaster. Mike worked with Brian and Larry who coordinated our crack crew to fly into action.

Our crew had everything back to normal in time for Monday classes. Students and staff didn’t even know vandals had struck. I appreciate our crew’s efforts. They tackled this challenge during a weekend with no advanced warning and really came through in the clutch.

Keep up the good work!

Mike
