“What are you going to do about training?” Many of you have asked me that question. The Action Teams made this recommendation in their final report, “Hire a full time Operational Training Coordinator. The person in this position will work with University Services Human Resources to develop training and career paths. They will also monitor, evaluate and revise the program as it grows over the years.”
I am excited to announce we have hired Bruce Edison to lead our training and development efforts. Bruce is fired up to tackle this challenge. Bruce will assess where we are at now, where we want to be in five years and then develop a plan to get us there. With almost 1,200 employees we need to be strategic with our time and training dollars. We will try to find the balance between our organization’s need and individual employee interests. To underscore the importance we place on training, Bruce will be attending FM Management Team meetings.

* Final Associate District Director*
While Bruce joined FM this week, Peggy McCarthy has been with us since October 8. Many of you in the Health Science District (Zone 3) have already met Peggy as she’s been out introducing herself to customers and crews. Peggy brings 25 years worth of property services experience to the U and we are glad to have her. She is the final Associate Director we will be hiring within our budget request and rounds out Marshall Skule’s senior leadership group.

*Consistent Delivery*
Half the battle with improving our performance is consistently delivering our services. To do that, we need to know how a procedure is done. As an Action and Implementation Team Lead, Sean Schuller has lead groups mapping current procedures and finding ways to make them better. Sean brings these skills to his role as Assistant Director, Process Development. Combined with his financial background, Sean will help Bill Paulus’ group make us more consistent, efficient and cost-effective.

*Valued Partner*
While not an FM employee, Shari Zeise is critical to FM’s success. Shari was recently hired as the Director of Finance for FM/CPPM and is a shining example of how an enterprise solution works at the U (Shari has served as the Asst. Director of Finance for FM for the last 3 years). While reporting to Bernie Fiske in University Services Finance Department, Shari champions FM’s needs, has helped us develop our budgets to make transformation possible and keeps a sharp eye on our bottom line. Shari also joins us each week at the FM Management Team meetings.
I have attached short bios if you would like to know more about our new hires. Please join me in welcoming them to our team. I look forward to sharing the results of the Team Manager hiring process soon.
Keep up the good work.
Mike
