This year’s Community Fund Drive (CFD) was a big success thanks to a lot of hard work. FM’s participation rate jumped from 7.6% last year to 21.6% and we raised more than $26,000 dollars for Minnesota charities.
Besides our combined efforts, we also challenged each District to see who could have the highest participation rate. They responded with all sorts of fun ideas ranging from grill raffles (win not only the grill but enough fixin’s to feed 25 of your closest friends) to Hot Wheels races. This year’s winner of the FM Challenge was the East Bank District, which weighed in with a whopping 49% participation rate. The entire East Bank will be treated to lunch for their winning effort. Special thanks to Andy Madsen, Greg Williams and Dan Lockren for organizing the pancake breakfast – great bacon!
While we’re thanking folks lets recognize the efforts of FM’s CFD Team: Jim Green, Dan Lockren, Andy Madsen, Greg Peterson, Kirk Richardson, Bill Rinehart, Curt Stone and Marilyn Zenzen. The group was led by this year’s co-chairs Tammy Nelson and Sean Gabor who put together a very successful campaign. Thanks to this team for their extra efforts and to all of you who participated in the Community Fund Drive.
Great Performance – Jim Westrup, St. Paul Mechanic
During our switch over to the winter heating season, St. Paul Mechanic Jim Westrup received work orders saying some Vet Med rooms were cold. He noticed a low pressure reading in the radiation heating system, so he added some water. This briefly increased pressure but then it dropped back down to zero. Jim looked for signs but saw no flooding in the mechanical room or the building.
Then Jim had a hunch that the leak was in the heat exchanger’s tube bundle and asked his team’s pipefitter to check for hard water in the steam trap. Normally a trap would only contain soft water from the steam condensate line. Jim’s hunch paid off, having found hard water the pipefitter was able to replace the tube bundle and get heat restored within the week. In the meantime, to keep his customers comfortable, Jim had the temperature of the air handler increased.
Jim’s problem solving helped head off potential complications like frozen pipes and flooding. He also did a great job of providing his customers an interim solution while the permanent fix was being made. Thank you Mr. Westrup!
Keep up the good work.
Mike
