Re: Individual Tool Inventory

We all know the importance of having the right tool to getting a job done. As part of our inventory management project we worked with front line staff to develop a list of tools needed by each trade. We consulted the union contracts to see which tools employees should be supplying when they come to work and which the University needs to provide. In our discussions we also identified the tools that can be shared within a district or team.

Next, our Team Managers will be working with crews to fill out inventory sheets for each team member. These will be compiled and entered into a database so we are better able to order and allocate tools based on the needs of our crews. We will complete the inventory by October 30.

I’d like to thank the crew members who helped us put together the inventory lists:

Electricians - Gary Foster, Keith Arntsen, Doug Collins, Bill Toninato
Mechanics - Bill Hanson, Jeff Sahlberg, Mike Panning, Mark Koutek
Plumbers - Nick Manthey, Matt Leibel, Scott Sundgaard
Carpenters - Chuck Wuollet, Pete Fetzek, Jaime Jackman, Dan Hansmann, Glen Snyder
Pipefitters - Steve Dilger, Mike Anderson, Denny Jochim, Bob Juettner
Painters - Joe Follmer, Jesus Sanchez, Ron Mikel
Sheetmetal -  John Lauzon, Chuck Heille, Brad Konsor, Steve Gaida

Community Fund Drive

The annual Community Fund Drive started on Thursday October 1and runs through October 31. This important campaign provides much needed support for organizations in the Twin Cities and around Minnesota. We’ll detail some of those organizations next week.

We realize this is a tough economic year for our employees, the University and the State. It also means our help is needed more now than ever. We’d like to focus on our goal of increasing the percentage of FM employees who participate. Remember it’s not the amount that you’re donating but the number of folks who join the cause. As an added incentive the CFD organizers have a number of prizes they’re giving away ranging from gift cards to printers. The earlier you choose to donate the better your chances of winning. For more information, check out the CFD website http://www1.umn.edu/cfd/index.html.
