Vice President O’Brien and I enjoyed seeing many of you this last week. As she said, when President Bruininks presented the budget to our Regents he used the words “We must” to describe maintaining the U’s direction, momentum, strengths and quality. He meant we’re all in this together and that we’ve got to bring our best efforts. We have had to cut Administrative, Teamster and Trade positions all at least 13% and we do not expect funding to quickly rebound. However I’m confident in our ability to continue to be good stewards of the University.
The good news is that based on the University’s strengths, the U has landed over $100 million in Federal stimulus research grants. Our institution is so impressive that more than 30,000 people have applied to be students here. These programs and students will continue to need our services. The quality of our work will help determine our standing - our destiny is in our own hands.
Great Performance – St. Paul Crews 1 and 2
Many of the grants the U receives revolve around animal research. In order to apply, our programs must be certified and that certification requires being inspected. The folks in Research and Animal Resources (RAR) were extremely pleased with the FM Teams’ efforts, whipping the space into shape.
“RAR sure is thankful for all of FM's great support and HUGE
assistance for our inspection. Please spread our appreciation to
all…We just got back from our briefing with the inspectors and they
had wonderful things to say about RAR areas. THANK YOU again for all
of the wonderful accommodations FM has been giving us and getting
our projects completed.”
Thanks to St Paul crews 1 and 2, the U will continue to be a strong candidate for research funding. Way to keep the dollars flowing!
