On June 22, we are going to be re-bidding custodial areas for the entire Twin Cities campus. The process will take a week and impact our entire custodial workforce. We worked closely with the Labor-Management Committee as well as Teamster leadership and jointly recommended proceeding with the re-bidding on a master seniority basis.
In preparation for the re-bid we have posted bid areas, a master seniority list and bid time slots in the Districts. We mailed a letter to our custodians homes, distributed the same letter at muster meetings and had supervisors read it to their crews. I know many of you have strong working relationships with our custodians and so wanted you to see the information they've received. Though this is not a simple exercise, we are working hard to make it as seamless as possible while also being as fair as possible to all employees.
We will have more updates based on our plans to meet our budget direction soon. Though we have our recurring budget target, we have not yet heard what level of stimulus dollars we may receive which will impact how we proceed with our staffing plans entering the new fiscal year July 1, 2009.
