Working with our partners in the Department of Central Security, we have rolled out the new Security ID badges. This took a good bit of coordination with the folks in the U Card office as we had to compare our crew rosters with when a person last had their photo taken. Anyone who hadn’t had a picture taken within the last 5 years (including me) then had to have one snapped. You’ll note the red numbers above your photo on the badge which indicates how long before you have to get a new picture. While this may be old hat (or badge) for some of you, now that we’ve got them, our expectation is that all FM staff wear their badges while at work.
Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) Flood
My guess is by now you have heard about the flood in EECS. We had thousands of gallons of water leak from the 5th floor and then flood the lower floors. As with any such incident, we’ll analyze what conditions lead to the problem, how we responded and then apply those lessons learned to prevent it from happening in the future. While we are awaiting those results, I wanted to mention what a great job our crews did in responding.
Damage to the building is extensive. It could have been worse. Once the leak was discovered, we had personnel from the East Bank District, Health Sciences District and the North-West District working with EHS to reduce damage and protect as much of the building and equipment as possible. The truck-mount unit rolled to the scene, joining many other to use sub-pumps and floor cleaning machines to vacuum excess water. Custodians, Painters, Mechanics, Carpenters, Electricians, Plumbers and more, all pitched in to move equipment to dry areas, safely power down systems, clean up the mess and dry out impacted equipment and space. Our team moved efficiently and kept a level head throughout the event.
Thank you to all who helped!
