Central Services PlumbersFacilities Management's Central Services deliver a variety of services to campus customers including:

Asbestos Abatement

While most large asbestos abatement projects are contracted to private companies, Facilities Management maintains an in-house abatement staff to handle urgent repair of building system equipment. The staff consists of state certified abatement specialists, who are also trained to handle abatement of lead and fungus containing materials. Please vist the Hazardous Materials and Asbestos Abatement website for more information.

Elevator Shop

The elevator shop handles all aspects of elevator maintenance and service at the university's Twin Cities campus, such as safety inspections, routine repair and preventive maintenance. The shop services all supported buildings and provides 24-hour, year-round service on 242 pieces of equipment (215 elevators, 14 escalators, 7 dumbwaiters, 1 organ lift and 5 disability lifts).

FM Stores

FM Stores is the primary means for acquiring parts, tools and equipment for the university, Facilities Management and Capital Planning and Project Management. FM Stores operates parts warehouses and a tool crib, which provide parts, material, tools, equipment and transportation to our trades workers.

Landcare

Landcare presents a beautiful, safe and accessible exterior environment to campus users throughout the year. As part of the FM team, we provide efficient, cost effective stewardship of natural and built campus assets. Visit the landcare page for more information.

Safety and Risk Management

Safety and Risk Management are charged with the responsibility to develop, support and promote employee health, safety and risk management programs.  The Employee Safety and Health program provides FM with services like safety program development, training and education, accident investigation and hazard identification.  The Risk Management program serves University Services as a whole in the areas of workers’ compensation, property loss and fire life safety.  Visit the U of M risk management page for more information.

Signs and Graphics

The Sign Shop’s experienced staff offers graphic services in the following areas: event and temporary signs (banners, displays, showcards), engraved signs and awards (nametags, nameplates, plaques, laser engravings), custom signs (large format printing, hand-lettered signs and murals, dimensional lettered signs) and consulting (building sign schedules, sign design, project management).

Visit signs.umn.edu for a complete list of services, order form and Facility Sign Standards.

Waste and Recycling

Waste Management and Recycling is a division of Central Services within Facilities Management. We provide departments with the necessary equipment to recover resources. In 1992 the Recycling Program was integrated with the well established resources of the solid waste disposal system in order to increase efficiency and the volume of waste diverted from the solid waste stream. Please visit the U of M Recycling and ReUse Center websites for more information.
